About Marcia

Marcia began practicing yoga in the late 1980's and has been teaching yoga in and around Alameda for over 3 years. She is co-director, along with Nancy Clarke, of Island Yoga a small practice studio located in Alameda's West End.

Through her own practice she has experienced the therapeutic powers of yoga. She enjoys sharing the benefits of the practice with her students - whatever their level - with challenging yet approachable sequences to gain greater strength, flexibility, and balance, along with a sense of lightness in the body and calmness in the mind. She teaches her classes in the Iyengar style, focusing on the principles of alignment and proper movement in the yoga postures.

Marcia is a graduate of the Advanced Studies Program from the Yoga Room in Berkeley, California - a three year program with over 1,000 hours of teacher-training. She is also a certified Relax and Renew Trainer through Judith Lasater's accredited program. She draws inspiration from her own teachers; Donald Moyer, Mary Lou Weprin, and Michael Lucey.

She is a long-time resident of Alameda who appreciates the small-town atmosphere of island living. When not practicing or teaching she enjoys reading, cooking, gardening, and taking long walks along the bay with her two Greyhounds, Argus and Remy.
